I further beg to call your attention to
pages 1, 2, 3, and 4 of this letter, which refer to the vagaries of the Architects and explain the situation as late as 26th November, 1909.
This letter was not sent to the Architects
as it was considered useless to do so at that date and the Firm resigned on the 31st December, 1909.
The whole muddle was then left for me to work out as best I could, which involved making my own calculations, taking down certain work, strengthening existing work, etc.
At that date, and even months previously, I had no assistance inside the office as the only assistant allotted to me (Mr. Little) resigned from the Service in October, 1909, he being dis-
gusted with the unprofessional manner in which the works were being conducted by the Government.
During the year 1908 a Retrenchment Commission
was appointed with a view of reducing the staff of
the Public Works Department generally, but the Commission commented upon the small staff allotted
to me
be given.

I would ask that a copy of the Report be sub-
mitted to you as far as relates to the above, and
also as to the comments re the drawings submitted
by the Architects for the Post Office Building.
